« « Ignoring Bathrooms? With Little Help Import New Look To Them!  |  Solar Photovoltaic cells, also known as Solar PV, are silicon wafer based panels that absorb energy from the sun and then transfer that energy to your home. When photons of light hit the silicon wafer, they tip them of their chemical balance, creating a movement of protons and electrons in opposite directions, thus generating an electrical current. Solar PV cells are already used in some common appliances such as watches and calculators. Naturally, the domestic or commercial panels come in larger sizes to provide sufficient output. Over the years, some solar photovoltaic cells have been used successfully to generate electricity for very large buildings and other installations including the National Grid. The Planning Considerations of Solar Photovoltaic Solar photovoltaic panels can be installed on the roof, along a wall of the property or as standalone systems. Before buying and installing the panels, however, it is essential to make sure the user understands the installation regulations in the local area. Most domestic installations in England have been cleared for solar PV panel systems and English homeowners can also install the panels as standalone systems, so long as they meet certain criteria (namely avoiding conservation areas or listed buildings). In Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, the local governments are still working out the relevant laws. In most cases it is wise to check with your local authority before commissioning the installation of the solar cells. Reasons to Use Solar Photovoltaic There are several unique benefits to solar PV cells. One of the key benefits is the savings on electrical utility bills. Other savings are equally important - PV cells save around 1.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, as they produce virtually no greenhouse gases. Once installed, the solar panels protect the user from national grid power dependency. In other words the system shields the user from power outages and disruption to the electricity system. Solar power is therefore an attractive proposition for installations where the National Grid power is expensive or in remote areas (such as farms, caravans or research outposts). How to Install Solar Photovoltaic Solar photovoltaic cells need to be installed by a professional installation crew. Professional installers must be certified by the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. It is not recommended to try and install the solar panel cells unless you are fully trained and qualified. The cells are typically very heavy and they have to be attached to a separate support system that must be constructed and attached carefully to the roof. A professional installer will understand the local electrical and safety codes and can ensure that the solar PV units are meeting the requirements of the code. With the increasing public awareness to global warming and climate change, there is substantially more focus placed on finding energy generation options that are not reliant upon fossil fuels. Of the alternative energy options currently available (wave, wind, hydrogen, solar, nuclear), solar power is considered to be the most cost effective and with solar panels dropping in price due to competition, this technology is likely to become ever more popular. Sinks with vintage

I have had a sink nightmare recently. I was getting sinks for my 4 en-suites, the main bathroom and kitchen. My old sink in my personal en-suite got smashed in two after a cowboy builder fitter failed to secure a bathroom cabinet to the wall. I needed to replace every other sink in the house, 5 in total. Ensuites to bathrooms, i needed new sinks, FAST.

I say ’sinks’ in the plural term, as if one sink is ruined, it would mean that they would not all match anymore! All my sinks in my house needed to be the same style. I am ashamed to admit that I have a small case of OCD, and therfore have a tendency to need things not only done a certain way, but also look a certain way. my sinks was one of those things. the fact that i now knew my sinks would not match was making me throw up in my mouth a little every 10 minutes

It was a huge task replacing all the sinks. Most people would just replace a sink with any old new sink. Not me. My sinks were special, they had been passed down from generations. My oldest relatives had installed them when she lived here years ago, to me they were simply priceless…

So you can see how torn I was. To give in to my obsessive compulsive disorder and change all the heirloom sinks, or let my grandmothers legacy live on through her sinks?

over and over in my head I would have debates, as to weather I should keep the sinks or not. It got to the point where I couldn’t eat sleep or drink without thinking about sinks.

I decided I would have to get new ones. I went to the biggest bathroom retailer in England; I had a specific design in my head for the type of sinks I wanted. But I could not find it anyway. Again my OCD took over and I could not/would not settle for anything less than what I wanted.

google came through for me in the end, I struck gold on a company that promised to make for me from scratch, the perfect sinks I had in mind. I told them the specifications, and they went ahead and made me a mock up on their special design software. It was exactly what i wanted. i could have kissed the spotty young man who emiled me.

The sinks took next to no time in being constructed, they even came out to my house and fitted them in for me. The nice plumber after a cup of tea even fitted me a new cabinet! Hopefully this time it will hold!

I don’t think I will be able to face the drama of getting new sinks for my house ever again. I want to pass these sinks on to my great great grandkids!!
